This easy Sugar Cookie Protein Shake recipe turns coffee, protein powder, and a couple other ingredients into an easy, tasty dessert drink!

2 tall glasses of sugar cookie flavoured protein coffee shake, with frosted sugar cookies on a plate next to them. Overlaid text says sugar cookie protein shake recipe.

This protein shake recipe is one I whipped up on a lark, maybe a year or so ago.

I’d been doing a lot of coffee+protein shake drinks, usually pretty basic. One day I got bored and decided to dress up my coffee shake a bit... and this recipe was born!

I was shocked at how much my concoction just straight up tasted like a sugar cookie!

So I did up a quick post on Facebook, “I don’t know who needs to know this, buuut...”... and posted the recipe.

It was an instant hit, and immediately went into somewhat regular rotation in our home.

So, now that we have a blog dedicated to fun ways to dress up the use of protein powder, obviously we have to share it on a bigger scale!

    Ingredients

You’ll only need 5 ingredients to make these sugar cookie protein shakes ... and I only have a few short ingredient notes for you:

    Unsweetened Almond Milk

Unsweetened Almond Milk has been my milk of choice for years now. It was a great dairy-free option when I could no longer handle cow’s milk, and it’s a fantastic, low carb option in general.

When it comes down to it, though... depending on your macros, you can use pretty much any kind of milk in this recipe.

As far as non dairy milk goes, Oat milk, Cashew Milk, Flax Milk, Macadamia Milk and Coconut Milk are all good options.

Almond is the most neutral tasting option, though - so just know that the other plant based milks may change the overall flavour of the protein shake a bit.

Anyway, beyond the non-dairy milk options, regular milk works, too - just a bit higher carb.

You can use whatever you like, but I’d recommend at least 2% fat, for texture reasons. Whole milk is great... I find 1% / skim milk to be too watery, IMHO.

    Vanilla Flavored Protein Powder

This recipe uses Vanilla Flavored Whey Protein Powder.

Personally, I keep a big canister of Revolution Nutrition's High Whey in Vanilla Cake on hand at all times, and use it in a TON of my recipe - baked goods, beverages, etc.

Use whatever vanilla protein powder that you like to drink, and fits your macros.

    Coffee

Use regular or decaf, but just aim for a neutral flavoured, basic coffee - not flavoured.

Alternately, you can use 2 heaping teaspoons of instant espresso powder, with 1 ½ cups Almond Milk and ½ cup water.

    Brown Sugar

You can use regular brown sugar, or - like I do - a brown sugar substitute.

    Personally, I use Brown Allulose.

Allulose is the sweetener that MOST tastes like sugar, IMHO - and it doesn’t have any weird aftertaste or cooling sensation like erythritol does.

FYI: If you use a brown sugar replacement, the recipe - excluding the protein powder - comes to only 1.5 grams of carbs, plus whatever one serving of your protein powder is.

    Almond Extract

Not much to add here, just this is what really makes the protein shake taste like a sugar cookie.

Almond extract is pretty potent, so don’t use any more than necessary!
