This Ginger Peach Matcha Smoothie recipe sounds fancy, but is quick and easy to make. A tasty break from your basic protein smoothies!
As part of that, I’ve gotten WAY into using matcha - and I’ve got a lot of great matcha recipes coming, over the next little while!
In the meantime, this ginger peach matcha smoothie was one of the first ways I started using matcha, when I broke away from just doing fairly standard matcha lattes.
I love ginger with matcha, I love ginger with peaches (Like my Ginger Peach Chia Pudding!), and I figured matcha had to go pretty well with peaches, as it seemed to work well with a lot of fruits.
... and I was right! This flavour combination is lovely, and a great, high protein way to start the day - or end a workout!
Let’s look at what you’ll need to have on hand, to make these peach ginger matcha smoothies yourself!

Ingredients
Aside from possibly the matcha, these are all pretty basic ingredients, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding what you need in any larger grocery store.
As always, I have a few notes for you:
Matcha Powder
This is a fine powder with an earthy flavor, made from green tea leaves. There are different grades of matcha, which are determined by the quality of the whole leaf, and when it was harvested.
More on that in a minute, though.
More of the numerous health benefits associated with good quality matcha powder include a high dose of antioxidants, is seen as good for your immune system, bones, cholesterol levels, AND is supposed to be good for helping with mental clarity and focus.
Part of that could be the fact that it has a fair amount of caffeine - 3x the amount of most teas, more than twice as much as regular green tea, and around the same as a cup of coffee!
Between the caffeine and the L-theanine (an amino acid), it’s seen as a good source for sustained energy, and doesn’t come with the caffeine crash associated with energy drinks and coffee.
Ceremonial Grade Matcha
This is the highest quality grade matcha, and is pretty much exclusively used for drinking - especially in traditional ceremonies.
It has a vibrant green color, a sweet, grassy flavour, and is made from the first-picked leaves
Culinary Grade Matcha
Culinary-grade matcha is a slightly lower quality of matcha, though not LOW quality.
It’s what’s most commonly used in mixed matcha drinks, and as an ingredient to bring the flavor of matcha to cooking and baking.
This is the grade I use for making my matcha lattes - no sense paying the upcharge for ceremonial, when it’s going to be mixed with protein powder!
Industrial Grade / Ingredient Grade
This matcha is made from tea leaves harvested later in the season, and doesn’t tend to have the same vibrant green that the higher quality matcha powders do.
It also has a more bitter flavor, and tends to be used commercially in things like supplements and beauty products.
Frozen Peach Slices
I love the way peach goes with ginger, and the two work really well with the flavour of matcha. (Have you tried my Ginger Peach Chia Pudding? Fantastic stuff!)
Not a ton to say here, other than you’re really going to want to use frozen. If you cut up fresh fruit, you’re going to need a LOT - much more economical to buy pre-frozen peaches.
On that note, if you prefer to use thawed peaches (I get it, I’m not always into having SUPER cold drinks!)... measure first, then thaw.
If you thaw it first, it’ll mush a bit and condense - 2 cups of thawed peach slices will be WAY more peach - by weight - than if you measure before thawing.
Delicious, of course - but your macros will be very different!
Vanilla Flavored Protein Powder
This recipe uses Vanilla Flavored Whey Protein Powder - it adds sweetness AND negates the need for vanilla extract!
Use whatever vanilla protein powder that you like to drink, and fits your macros.
If you use a plant-based protein powder / vegan protein powder, this can be a vegetarian or vegan overnight oats recipe - you’ll just want to be sure you’re using a plant-based collagen powder. (Or you can skip it entirely.)
Just note: The sweetness of the finished smoothie will depend on the sweetness of your protein powder. If yours is a bit less sweet, you may find yourself wanting to add extra honey at the end!
Unsweetened Almond Milk
While Unsweetened Almond Milk has been my milk of choice for years now, sometimes I’ll use coconut milk in this matcha peach smoothie recipe.
Both are great dairy-free options now that I can no longer handle cow’s milk, and are great options when trying to keep low carb.
As far as dairy-free milk goes, Oat milk, Cashew Milk, Flax Milk, and Macadamia Milk are all good options. Sometimes you can even find a soy milk with added protein!
We’ve actually really been loving an almond/cashew blend protein milk, lately.
Almond and coconut are the most neutral / complementary tasting options, though - so just know that the other plant milk varieties may change the overall flavour of your overnight oats a bit.
Anyway, beyond the non-dairy milk options, regular milk works, too - just a bit higher carb.
You can use whatever you like, but I’d recommend at least 2% fat, for texture reasons. Whole milk is great... I find 1% / skim milk to be too watery, IMHO.
Everything Else
Rounding out this recipe, you will need:
Collagen Peptides (Optional)
Plain Greek Yogurt
Ground Ginger
Honey
As always, I just don’t have anything else to add, as far as these last few ingredients go!
