My pumpkin pie protein shake recipe is fantastic - a dessert protein shake, it's pumpkin pie in drink form! Super easy to make, too!

With the holidays now in the review mirror... I’m going to go ahead and post my pumpkin pie protein shake recipe.

As the name suggests, this protein shake tastes like pumpkin pie in a glass. It’s thick, rich, and VERY dessert-y.

This is not what I tend to think of as an everyday protein shake. It’s not something we would chug before or after a workout, it’s definitely more of a once in a while indulgence.

... and what an indulgence it is!

While I call this a shake - rather than a smoothie - I do recommend making them in a blender. You’ll get a much smoother, more velvety texture than if you make them in a shaker bottle.

Either way, though - possibly the perfect protein shake recipe for the holidays!

    Ingredients

You’ll only need a few simple ingredients to make pumpkin pie protein shakes ... and I only have a few short ingredient notes for you:

    Unsweetened Almond Milk

Unsweetened Almond Milk has been my milk of choice for years now. It was a great dairy-free option when I could no longer handle cow’s milk, and it’s a fantastic, low carb option in general.

When it comes down to it, though... depending on your macros, you can use pretty much any kind of milk in this recipe.

As far as non dairy milk goes, Oat milk, Cashew Milk, Flax Milk, Macadamia Milk and Coconut Milk are all good options.

Almond is the most neutral tasting option, though - so just know that the other plant based milks may change the overall flavour of the pumpkin protein shake a bit - generally in a nice way, though!

Anyway, beyond the non-dairy milk options, regular milk works, too - just a bit higher carb.

You can use whatever you like, but I’d recommend at least 2% fat, for texture reasons. Whole milk is great... I find 1% / skim milk to be too watery, IMHO.

    Pumpkin Purée

You can use store bought or homemade pumpkin puree, just be sure to use real pumpkin puree, without anything added.

“Pumpkin pie filling” isn’t the same thing - it has sweeteners, fillers, etc... and won’t work the same way in this recipe.

    Collagen Peptides

This one is optional, but I like to add a scoop of Unflavored Collagen Peptides Powder , as an easy way to give my pumpkin protein shakes a boost of extra protein.

If you’re not particularly concerned about adding additional protein and don’t have any collagen on hand, you can feel free to skip it.

    Vanilla Flavored Protein Powder

This recipe uses Vanilla Flavored Whey Protein Powder.

Personally, I keep a big canister of Revolution Nutrition's High Whey in Vanilla Cake on hand at all times, and use it in a TON of my recipe - baked goods, beverages, etc.

Use whatever vanilla protein powder that you like to drink, and fits your macros.

    Everything Else

Rounding out the recipe, you will need:

    Maple Syrup
    Pumpkin Pie Spice

Optional garnishes: Whipped cream, nuts, pumpkin spice, nutmeg, etc.

... I don’t really have anything to add, here!

Are "dessert-replacement" shakes a thing, like meal replacement shakes are? Either way, it definitely describes this recipe. Hope you love it as much as we do!
